Ruger Precision Gen 3
® Gen 3 Bolt-Action Rifle is specifically designed for long-range, tactical shooting. The Gen 3 Precision rifle comes with a new, free-float M-LOK® handguard that provides greater clearance with large diameter objective lens scopes, while the factory-installed muzzle brake features a hybrid port design that reduces recoil by up to 40–60%, and reduces muzzle blast, directing it to each side of the shooter’s line of sight for enhanced accuracy and control.
The upper receiver and one-piece bolt are precision CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome-moly steel to minimize distortion, and a 20-MOA Picatinny rail is secured to the receiver with 4 #8-40 screws for superior rigidity. The bolt features 3 lock lugs, resulting in superior strength and a 70º throw, while the billet-aluminum bolt shroud offers lasting strength and durability.
The Ruger Precision Gen 3 MSR buttstock attaches to an AR-style buffer tube on a left-folding hinge and adjusts for length of pull and comb height with simple tooth-and-groove adjustment knobs.
The buttstock features QD sling attachment points, a bottom Picatinny rail, and a rubber buttpad for enhanced comfort and stability. An extended trigger-reach, AR-style grip, and a 45º reversible safety selector provide easy manipulation with either hand, and the rifle is compatible with any AR-style grip or selector for superior versatility.
The cold hammer-forged 4140 chrome-moly steel, medium-contour barrel boasts highly accurate 5R rifling, while the barrel nut enables close-tolerance headspacing, and a Marksman Adjustable™ trigger breaks cleanly to enhance accurate shooting.

What is the difference between a Gen 2 and Gen 3 Ruger Precision Rifle?
Other than the mods on the Gen-3 the chamber and bolt has a better fit and finish in the chamber and on the bolt. The Gen-2 was kind rough, though that didn’t really effect its performance, but took a little while for the bolt to smooth out sounding a little like a zipper.
Are Ruger Precision rifles good?
Ruger started this and, to some extent, still holds the edge. Most competitors shoot well, it’s just that the Ruger’s solid stock invites you to make things easier on yourself. 6.5 Creedmoor was new itself when the RPR arrived, and would still be my first calibre choice for this rifle.
Is Ruger made by Remington?
Remington continues producing ammunition, but RemArms, which bought the firearms business in 2020, now designs, builds, and ships Remington firearms. Sturm Ruger & Co., better known simply as Ruger was founded in Connecticut in 1949 by William Ruger and Alexander Sturm.
